Mankind faces several problems in the day to day life. Diseases form a major part of these hitches. Some diseases are curable and do not harm human lives much. But some diseases prove to be fatal, taking the lives of millions. Several such diseases still exist in this hi tech world, without having an effective remedy or solution to it.
Cancer, malignant and malevolent in nature, biologically denotes a category of disease where in problems are caused due to the uncontrolled growth of a group of cells or due to invasion wherein tissues are destroyed by the intrusion of other tissues or even due to metastasis wherein it is spread throughout the body through fluids like lymph or blood. The initial stage of this fatal disease is through the formation of some sort of tumor in most case. Sometimes, in cases like that of leukemia, tumors may not be formed.
Deaths caused by cancer every year show it high pervasive nature. The victims can be from any age group and from any region of the world. It accounts to nearly 13% of all the human deaths. The causes of this malicious predicament are often the abnormalities caused due to the effect of carcinogens like tobacco smoke, infectious chemicals, radiations and so on.
Cancer can affect any part of the body. Lung cancer is the most commonly found cancer among men. The most prevalent symptoms of this disease include shortness of breath, coughing up blood and weight loss. Prolonged exposure to tobacco smoke is the most common cause of this disease. Genetic factors, second hand smoke, radon gas, air pollution and asbestos account for the causes of this disease in the case of non smokers. It can be diagnosed through mechanisms like chest radiograph and Computer Tomography Scan (popularly known as the CT scan). A biopsy can confirm the diagnosis. The treatment varies for the different types of lung cancer. Some are treated through surgery whereas some are treated through ways like chemotherapy and radiation.
A rare but often discusses type of cancer, Mesothelioma, is highly aggressive in nature. It is developed in the small mesothelial cells that outline various body organs and body cavities. It usually accounts to nearly 2000 to 3000 cases of cancer deaths on an annual basis. It is said to be caused mainly due to a long time exposure to asbestos.
